ASH Guidelines for the use of TPO-RAs in chronic ITP1

The American Society of Hematology (ASH) provides evidence-based recommendations to help inform treatment decisions for adult patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP).

In 2019, ASH published updated treatment guidelines for the management of ITP, informed by a comprehensive review of available clinical evidence and expert consensus. The guidelines emphasize limiting prolonged corticosteroid exposure when possible and recommend consideration of second-line therapies for patients with persistent or chronic ITP who are corticosteroid dependent or unresponsive.

TPO-RAs can be used as a second-line treatment for adults with ITP who are unresponsive to first-line therapies such as corticosteroids1
Short-term corticosteroid use is preferred over prolonged corticosteroid exposure in adults with ITP1*

Doptelet was not incorporated into the 2019 ASH guideline recommendations.
